P.J. Cole (Southern) Ltd has earned its reputation on the back of detailed wet waste management services. We’re more than just a company of cesspit emptying, septic tank emptying and sewage treatment plant maintenance specialists. We know more about sewage systems than most and our reputation has now spread far beyond our home county of Surrey. We are trusted cesspit and septic tank installers, and emptying technicians, for the Sevenoaks area, and for all surrounding locations in Kent and the South.
We also perform cesspit and septic tank repairs, using CCTV drain surveys to evaluate damage and recommend solutions.
Sewage systems are relatively simple. Waste enters the tank, undergoes separation and, with septic tanks in particular, the effluent discharges into nearby land or a soakaway. Therefore, it still comes as a surprise to us that so many strange ideas about what we find when performing cesspit emptying and septic tank emptying still have a sizeable amount of credibility.
This page dispels some of the most common myths to provide reassurance for customers. The myths we are looking at are:
We are knowledgeable cesspit and septic tank installers. P.J. Cole (Southern) Ltd is equally proficient in the field of sewage treatment plant maintenance. When we see suppliers advertising the sale of worms to help with the biological processing of waste, it still puts a smile on our faces. What we produce as humans is more than enough to encourage natural bacteria growth. Worms are little more than a gimmick.
If you notice worrying odours, the chances are that you need to book in for cesspit or septic tank repairs. Visual inspections and CCTV drain surveys are likely to do much more for the integrity of your installation than a few worms.
We advise tank owners in Sevenoaks to stick with our friendly specialists and not to waste their time or money.
As crazy as it sounds, there are still some people out there who believe the addition of a dead animal to a tank will encourage bacteria growth. When we’re called out to provide cesspit emptying or septic tank emptying services, the last thing we want to find is the carcass of an animal rotting away inside off-mains sewage systems. Human waste and the water from baths, toilets and washing machines are more than enough to spawn bacteria without any help from an added dead animal.
Again, odours indicate a problem. We advise that property owners book in with us at P.J. Cole (Southern) Ltd for cesspit or septic tank repairs, or for sewage treatment plant maintenance, instead. If CCTV drain surveys reveal a dead animal, most cesspit and septic tank installers won’t get involved in removing it.
Just the thought of it makes us shudder!
Not all urban myths are as grizzly as worms and dead animals and we’re extremely thankful for that. Even so, certain things still drive us crazy and one of the myths that really gets us going is people using soakaway crates for wastewater runoff. BS6297 and Part H of the UK Building Regulations are very clear about the use of drainage fields. Neither advocate soakaway crates. Our cesspit emptying and septic tank emptying technicians certainly don’t advocate them either.
Crates won’t be able to cope with suspended solids produced in your Sevenoaks property. Wastewater from sewage systems will cause soakaway crates to choke and fail. This will leave you with a hefty bill for cesspit and septic tank repairs, or for sewage treatment plant maintenance programs.
Our experienced cesspit and septic tank installers recommend a proper soakaway and will be able to integrate one as part of your installation if you are using us for the first time. We also restore the integrity of tanks and STPs by carrying out investigative CCTV drain surveys, and by providing you and your property with a complete maintenance and repair service.
